Description
Amla (Phyllanthus emblica Amlabaum) Also known as: Amalak or Indian Gooseberry.
Its fruits contain large amounts of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), 445 mg/100g. The content of tannins and other polyphenols gives it antioxidant properties. It also contains flavonoids, kaempferol, ellagic acid and gallic acid.
Skin rejuvenation:
In Ayurveda, Amla powder is recognized as an essential element for cellular rejuvenation. Amla strengthens collagen, making it a very effective element for treating mature skin. It is incredible for preventing the appearance of wrinkles and spots caused by aging. It is also an ideal astringent for treating oily skin.
The Amalaki has been the subject of investigations into its properties. It has been shown to have antioxidant, antiviral and antibiotic activity. Studies in early testing suggest that its extracts could improve rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. A pilot study demonstrated the reduction of normal and hypercholesterolemia blood cholesterol levels in men.
In Ayurveda it is used for the purpose of renewing and strengthening the body, as well as improving digestion and strengthening the response of the immune system.
Amalaki is one of the three ingredients of the widely used Ayurvedic formula – Triphala. Triphala is generally given to people who are thought to have excess heat in the digestive tract.
How to take Amla: Take 1/2 tablespoon a day in the morning, on an empty stomach, dissolved in hot water. Take daily for 90 days and then rest for 1 month before taking it again.
Not suitable for pregnant women or during lactation.
