Course Information

This course is designed for students who have previously completed the 7-year Advanced Kriya yoga training with Sri Swami Purohit.

Over 2,000 years ago, the great sage Patanjali compiled the Yoga Sutras; the very first written text on yoga. This timeless masterpiece is the foundation of all yogic knowledge, offering not just physical practices but a complete philosophy for mastering the mind, achieving inner peace, and realizing your highest potential.

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are a compilation of 195 guidelines to practice and develop body, mind and connection to the soul. They are regarded as the first yoga textbook ever written, forming the theoretical and philosophical basis of yoga, emphasizing control of the mind, liberation and transcendental knowledge.

The Yoga Sutras were written at a time when people lived physically active lives. This may explain why Patanjali wrote these sutras as a means to achieve concentration and mental development, allowing practitioners to move beyond the purely physical realm.

Ultimately, the Yoga Sutras were written for the purification of the mind.
